Skiers Found Dead Near Swiss Alps in Mysterious Avalanche Incident

Five skiers were discovered dead in the Swiss Alps on Sunday, prompting an investigation into the cause of their deaths. According to officials, the identities of the victims have not been confirmed, and further inquiries are underway.

Emergency services were alerted a day earlier to some abandoned skis at 4,000 meters altitude near Zermatt, a luxury resort in southwestern Switzerland. A helicopter survey revealed three bodies on an avalanche debris field below where the skis were found, while two more were discovered nearby on a snowfield.

The Rimpfischhorn mountain, located east of Zermatt and popular among backcountry skiers, is under scrutiny due to its recent history of fatalities. Last year, five cross-country skiers were also found dead in the area.

The investigation into this incident’s cause will examine weather conditions and avalanche activity in the region.
