Skimming Devices Found at PA Businesses, Police Warn Public

Card skimming devices have been found at businesses in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, prompting the police to warn the public about the potential risks. The devices were discovered on ATMs and point-of-sale machines at 7-Eleven convenience stores and a grocery store in the area.

According to authorities, the devices are connected and could be linked to more cases. Detective Elizabeth Cartwright warned that people should be aware of their surroundings when using ATMs or making purchases, especially if they notice any resistance when inserting their card.

Police say that the panels over the ATM keyboard should be a flat surface, and if it’s loose, the machine could be compromised. They also advise to tap to pay, use cash, or cover the PIN as you enter it to protect yourself from potential cyber threats.

The discovery of the skimming devices comes after a similar incident in Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey, where a 7-Eleven convenience store was affected. Authorities are encouraging people to report any suspicious activity immediately if they come across a skimming device.

Detectives say that extra security measures can be taken to protect oneself from such threats, including using the Global Privacy Control (GPC) tool or opting out of targeted advertising.
