Skype to Be Retired, Migrated to Microsoft Teams by 2025

Microsoft is retiring Skype, a popular communication platform, and shifting its focus to Microsoft Teams, a modern collaboration hub. The move aims to streamline free consumer communications offerings, allowing for easier adaptation to customer needs.

Teams offers many features similar to Skype, including one-on-one calls, group calls, messaging, and file sharing. Additionally, Teams provides enhanced features such as hosting meetings, managing calendars, and building communities. Hundreds of millions of people already use Teams for teamwork, staying connected at work, school, and home.

During the transition period, users have a choice: migrate to Microsoft Teams for free or export their Skype data. Users can log into Teams with their Skype account, automatically importing chats and contacts. The platform also enables seamless calling and chatting between Teams and Skype users.

To get started with Teams, download the app from the official website, log in with Skype credentials, and start using it with existing Skype chats and contacts. Microsoft is providing a step-by-step guide to help users adapt to the new platform.

For paid Skype features, Microsoft will no longer offer new subscriptions after 2025. Current subscribers can continue to use their credits until the end of their next renewal period. The Skype Dial Pad will remain available in Teams for remaining paid users.

Microsoft thanks Skype users for their contributions and commitment, assuring they’ll be supported through this transition. As teams shift to Microsoft Teams, new opportunities emerge for everyday connections.
