Small Asteroid Lights Up Russian Sky in Spectacular Fireball

A small asteroid, measuring approximately 70cm, entered Earth’s atmosphere over Russia’s far east at 01:15 local time on Wednesday morning. Astronomers from the European Space Agency (ESA) detected the phenomenon about 12 hours prior to its arrival. Locals in the remote Sakha region of northeastern Siberia flocked to catch a glimpse of the spectacular fireball, which was witnessed by people in the snow-covered area despite officials being placed on alert. The Sakha emergencies ministry reported no damage after the asteroid’s descent.
