A small business in Webster Springs, West Virginia, has made it to the big stage after being featured in a Google Super Bowl commercial. Custard Stand Chili, owned by Angie and Dee Cowger, was showcased in an ad highlighting local businesses across all 50 states.
The family-owned business started as a small venture in Webster Springs and has since gained national attention through appearances on Shark Tank and national grocery store shelves. The recent Google ad is the latest milestone for the company.
“We just wanted to show that you can dream big,” said Angie Cowger, owner of Custard Stand Chili. “If we can get on a Super Bowl commercial with one red light in our town, anyone can achieve their dreams.”
For Dee Cowger, being featured in the Google ad was a childhood dream come true. Her original goal when starting the business was to appear on a Super Bowl commercial or NASCAR.
The company’s proposal for the Google ad came from an unexpected email that even Angie wasn’t sure about at first. However, they were ultimately chosen due to their unique story and local roots in West Virginia.
“Google liked our story because we’ve been around for a long time, developed from a restaurant, and worked with national retailers,” said Angie Cowger. The company’s commitment to telling its authentic story has paid off, making it the first small business from West Virginia featured in the Google Super Bowl commercial.
