“Snipers in Love Amid Monsters”

In a remote valley shrouded in fog, two lone soldiers are tasked with guarding the area from whatever lurks beneath. When an ex-Marine sniper named Levi is hired for duty, he meets his East Tower counterpart Drasa, an equally skilled gun-for-hire. As they work together to fend off “Hollow Men” and other monsters, they develop a strong bond that eventually blossoms into romance.

Levi’s (Miles Teller) stoic demeanor pairs well with his rugged good looks, but his character’s inner brokenness is rarely on display. However, in Drasa’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) presence, he starts to thaw. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their banter and flirtations are a highlight of the film.

As they work together, the movie veers into a run-of-the-mill horror/action flick, with an abundance of creative monsters. However, once the plot twist is revealed, the story suffers from a lack of coherence. The semi-screwball antics between the leads are reduced to mindless action and explosive set pieces, detracting from their charming chemistry.

The Gorge has potential as a meet-cute romantic thriller with monsters, but it fails to live up to its full promise due to its inability to balance action, horror, and romance. Despite this, fans of Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy may enjoy the film’s early moments, where their characters’ relationship is slowly developed.
