SNL Cold Open Mocks Trump War Plans Mishap

A recent “Saturday Night Live” cold open tackled the infamous incident where Trump administration officials shared secret war plans in a group chat that accidentally included journalists and others. In the sketch, Pete Hegseth, Defense Secretary, was depicted as sharing top-secret information with a group of high school girls in his group chat.

The scene began when Hegseth entered the wrong chat but refused to believe it, asking, “Could you imagine if that actually happened?” He continued sharing sensitive information, including locations of nuclear submarines. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio later joined the chat, with Vance sending a “PDF of all deep cover CIA agents” and Rubio insisting the whole thing was a prank.

The sketch also featured journalist Jeffrey Goldberg, who had been in the chat the entire time, telling Hegseth to lose his number. The story was referenced during “Weekend Update,” with Colin Jost quipping about the national security team’s texting skills.

Meanwhile, host Mikey Madison poked fun at her chaotic month, including hosting SNL and winning an Oscar. She joked about incorporating her “relaxed vibe” into roles, which was evident in her intense performances in various films. Madison also shared a photo of herself as a horse girl and discussed being homeschooled.

The episode ended with an unusual moment when musical guest Morgan Wallen broke from the show’s tradition and left the stage early. Fans criticized his move, but Wallen later posted a photo of a plane on Instagram, indicating he was heading to God’s country. “SNL” will return next week with host Jack Black and musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile.
