SNL Mocks Trump’s Election Victory

Saturday Night Live (SNL) tackled Donald Trump’s election victory in a somber opening monologue, but quickly shifted to a tone of mockery and flattery towards the new president.

The show began with cast members, primarily women and minorities, describing their reality after Trump’s win. Ego Nwodim said that many people were shocked and horrified by the results, while Heidi Gardner noted that Trump’s victory was made possible by the Supreme Court’s decision to lift guardrails on his presidency.

However, the show took a swerve towards flattery when Keenan Thompson said, “That is why we at SNL would like to say to Donald Trump, we have been with you all along.” The cast members praised Trump, claiming they had never wavered in their support for him and that every single person on stage voted for him.

Cast member James Austin Johnson, who plays a dead-on Trump, declared his admiration for the president-elect, saying he would be doing a “very flattering portrayal of Trump” from now on. The episode also featured a fake news segment with Colin Jost and Michael Che, where they poked fun at Democrats’ perceived shortcomings.

The show’s tone was in line with what viewers might expect from SNL after its 50th season, which has seen the cast tackle politics and election results in various sketches.
