SoCal Edison Outages Persist Amid Santa Clarita Valley Windstorms

Power outages continue to affect a wide area of Southern California Edison customers in Piru and Sand Canyon, with another week of windstorms expected in the Santa Clarita Valley. SCE officials have declined to answer specific questions about outages or restoration timelines, instead sending frustrated customers to an online map that promises power will be restored by midnight Thursday.

According to the map, restoration times may take up to eight hours but could be longer if inspections require daylight or damage is found. Some outages began Monday morning as Santa Ana winds threatened power lines and created a fire danger in dry conditions.

Business owners are expressing frustration over the repeated outages, citing generator limitations that make it difficult for them to operate during extended power outages. With generators requiring hours to set up and operate, businesses like Jill Mellady’s operation in Guitar Circuit feel the impact of frequent outages.

The National Weather Service warns of a “particularly dangerous situation” forecasted to continue from Monday night into Wednesday morning, with 50-60 mph winds expected. A Red Flag Day warning is in effect through Wednesday evening, likely contributing to the power restoration timeline.

Regional risk for fire is high in areas across northern SCV, including Piru, Valencia, and Canyon Country, due to wind speeds, low humidity, and drought conditions. SCE officials attribute some outages to equipment failure and its Public Safety Power Shutoff program, while others are due to maintenance-related causes.
