Social Security beneficiaries will receive bigger checks next year due to the cost of living adjustment (COLA). The COLA, which will increase by 2.5% in 2025, affects payments for retired workers, survivors, and those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income.
The maximum federal amounts for Supplemental Security Income will be $967 for an individual, $1,450 for an eligible couple, and $484 for a child. However, the maximum retirement benefit amounts will also increase in 2025. For example, at age 62, the maximum benefit will be $2,831, while at age 70 and older, it will be $5,108.
To estimate your monthly payments, add 2.5% to your current benefits. Beneficiaries should check their Social Security Administration (SSA) accounts for updates on their new amounts.
