The Social Security Administration will issue its first round of payments for 2025 on Wednesday, January 8, based on recipients’ date of birth and type of benefits. Almost 73 million payments are sent each month, including retired workers, surviving spouses, and recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.
For retirees, payments are generally issued on Wednesdays, with different dates depending on the birth month:
– Those born between January 1-10 receive their money on February 5.
– Those born between January 11-20 receive their payment on March 5.
– Those born between January 21-31 get their checks on April 2.
However, workers who started receiving retirement payments before May 1997 are not covered by this schedule and receive their benefits on the third day of the month.
In 2025, the average monthly payment for an individual retiree will be $1,976, with a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase.
For beneficiaries who will receive Social Security checks on January 8, these include those born between January 1-10, according to the SSA website.
