Solar Eclipse 2024: North America to Witness Rare View

A rare view of an eclipsed sun rising in the east at sunrise will be visible from some US states and Canadian provinces on March 29, 2024. This partial solar eclipse, which covers up to 94% of the sun, is not as impressive as a total solar eclipse but still worth observing.

The event occurs when the moon blocks part of the sun’s light, causing an eclipse. However, unlike 2023’s “Great American Eclipse,” this year’s event will feature only partial eclipses, with neither offering totality.

To safely observe the eclipse, viewers must use eclipse glasses at all times. The eclipse will take place from 8:50 AM to 12:43 PM UTC (4:50 AM to 8:43 AM EST). However, exact timings vary depending on location.

Notable locations for viewing the eclipse include New Brunswick and far north Quebec in Canada, as well as parts of Pennsylvania to Maine. In Europe and Africa, the eclipse will be visible after sunrise, with varying coverage percentages ranging from 15% to 86%.
