Patrick Spence, the long-time CEO of Sonos, has announced his departure from the company following a disastrous app rollout in May 2024 that left users frustrated and angry. The failed attempt to release new products quickly resulted in software with severe bugs, causing an 8% year-over-year decrease in revenue.
Spence acknowledged that the redesign of the app was necessary but admitted that execution fell short. He stated that many customers are experiencing a worse experience than before, especially those with older products. As a result, Sonos laid off 100 employees to address performance issues.
New interim CEO Tom Conrad will take over while the company searches for a new leader. Despite this change, Chief Innovation Officer Nick Millington reassured users that another app update is planned for January, aiming to improve the overall experience.
