Sony Abandons Spider-Man Universe Amid Lackluster Box Office

Sony has shifted its focus from its underperforming Spider-Man universe to the next actual Spider-Man film, which will be released in 2025 and stars Tom Holland. This decision comes after a string of poorly received films, including Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web.

Kraven the Hunter, the latest installment in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, is expected to perform even worse at the box office. The film, set for release on December 13, is projected to earn only $13-$15 million in its opening weekend, far below the record-breaking $587.2 million earned by Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The film, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven the Hunter, has been met with skepticism from fans and critics alike. Director J.C. Chandor has asked audiences to give the film a chance, but it’s unlikely to change the course of Sony’s cinematic plans.

Sony’s Spider-Man universe consists of six films, with only Venom: Let There Be Carnage earning above a 5/10 on IGN’s review scale. The rest have received lukewarm reviews at best. However, fans can look forward to Spider-Man 4, which is set for release in 2026 and will star Tom Holland once again. This film may introduce Miles Morales into the MCU, something that Holland has expressed interest in.

Note: I removed Ryan Dinsdale’s name as it seems out of place in this context.
