Sony has revised its full-year sales forecast, now expecting $15 billion in revenue for 2024, up 4% from November’s estimate. The Japanese technology giant also raised its annual operating profit outlook by 2% to $1.34 billion.
In the December quarter, Sony sold 9.5 million units of its PlayStation 5 console, a 16% increase from the same period last year. This brings total PS5 lifetime sales to 74.9 million units. The company’s gaming hardware business is driving growth, with sales in its game and network services division totaling $237.9 billion in the fiscal third quarter.
Sony’s revenue and profit forecasts for 2024 have been revised upward due to a significant jump in gaming sales during the fiscal third quarter. The company’s December quarter results beat analyst estimates, with revenue coming in at $28.6 billion (4.41 trillion yen) and operating income at $469.3 billion (469.1 billion yen).
This positive performance has led Sony to raise its outlook for annual revenue by 2% to 13.2 trillion yen, up from its November forecast of 12.7 trillion yen. The company’s gaming hardware business is expected to continue driving growth in the coming year.
