Sony Removes AI-Generated Art Shovelware from PlayStation Store

Sony has removed several games from its PlayStation Network Store that featured AI-generated art, misleading titles, and fake screenshots, addressing concerns about “slop” in digital game storefronts. The move comes after a report by IGN highlighted the issue of scammers exploiting loopholes in store rules to sell low-quality games.

RandomSpin Games, which has been notorious for publishing “slop,” had over 35 games released in 2024, many with AI-generated artwork and misleading marketing. Some titles, such as Difficult Climbing Game and Bodycam Shooter PS4, have been delisted by Sony, but some still remain on the store.

Industry insiders claim that PlayStation Store’s lack of oversight makes it easier for scammers to sell low-quality games compared to other platforms like Microsoft’s Xbox or Nintendo’s store. However, Nintendo is seen as particularly vulnerable due to its lenient review process, with one developer saying, “Nintendo is probably the easiest to scam.” The removal of these titles marks a step towards cleaning up the PlayStation Store and protecting consumers from unwanted content.
