Sony Sees Strong Q3 Growth Amid Gaming and Music Boosts

Sony Group Corporation reported a strong third quarter for 2024, with consolidated revenue surging 18% year-over-year to $28.6 billion. The company’s gaming division, led by the PlayStation brand, drove growth with a 16% increase in sales to $10.92 billion.

The gaming division saw an operating income jump of 37%, driven by strong demand for PlayStation 5 games and network services. Sony Music also performed well, with revenue rising 14% to $3.12 billion, thanks to higher streaming revenues in recorded music and publishing.

However, the picture was less bright for other divisions. Sony Pictures Entertainment saw a decline in operating income due to higher marketing costs, while the Imaging & Sensing Solutions unit experienced a dip in sales of image sensors for mobile devices.

Despite these headwinds, Sony’s Financial Services arm reported a significant increase in revenue, driven by insurance finance expenses. The company has revised its full-year outlook, expecting $85.75 billion in revenue and $7.01 billion in net income attributable to shareholders.
