Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against China-based video game giant Tencent, alleging that its upcoming game “Light of Motiram” infringes on the rights to the “Horizon” franchise. The lawsuit claims that “Light of Motiram” is a “slavish clone” of the critically acclaimed games “Horizon Zero Dawn” and “Horizon Forbidden West”.
Sony seeks statutory damages of $150,000 for each separate work in the “Horizon” franchise infringed, as well as actual damages. The lawsuit also accuses Tencent of using the character Aloy, a key protagonist in the series, in its marketing campaign to confuse fans.
Tencent has not yet released a date for “Light of Motiram”, but its description for the game suggests it shares similarities with the popular “Horizon” franchise.
