Sony has released its new noise-cancelling headphones, the WH-1000XM6, three years after the last model. The new headphones offer several design changes and improvements over their predecessor. They fold in on themselves for easy storage and feature a redesigned case with a magnetic closure.
The headphones also have six microphones on each earcup, improving call quality and allowing users to hear background noise more accurately. However, some features have been changed or relocated due to feedback from users. The “Speak to Chat” function is now only accessible through the Sony app instead of the earcup.
Sony’s new QN3 processor promises seven times faster performance than its predecessor and delivers a significant leap forward in sound quality. The noise-cancelling technology has also been improved with an adaptive optimizer that adjusts for air pressure, a common issue in noise-cancellers.
The WH-1000XM6 headphones are now available to purchase, priced at $449.99 in the US or £399 in the UK. Both prices are higher than the original release price of the previous model but still lower than some competitors like Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Apple AirPods Max.
