South Carolina Returns to Final Four, Beats Duke in Overtime Thriller

South Carolina has returned to the Final Four of the women’s NCAA Tournament after a thrilling 54-50 victory over Duke in Birmingham, Alabama. The Gamecocks’ victory marks their fifth consecutive national semifinals appearance and sets them up for a matchup against the winner of Monday’s Texas-TCU game.

Defending champion South Carolina was led by Chloe Kitts, who scored 14 points and was named Most Outstanding Player of the region. The team struggled to find offense throughout much of the game, but Staley’s strategy of upping their defense paid off as they secured a close win over the Blue Devils.

The Gamecocks’ victory is significant, as it puts them two wins away from becoming the first team to repeat as champions since UConn won four straight titles from 2013-16. This achievement would cement South Carolina’s place in women’s college basketball history.

Duke, on the other hand, was led by Toby Fournier, who scored 18 points, but ultimately fell short of advancing to the next round. The Blue Devils will look to build on their Elite Eight run and bring a young core of sophomores to the Final Four.
