South Carolina suspends arena DJ for playing song linked to late father of LSU player

The South Carolina women’s basketball team’s arena DJ, DJ T.O., has been suspended for one game after playing “Cut Friends” by Camouflage at the end of their Friday night victory over LSU. The song was played during a celebration following the Gamecocks’ 66-56 win, which marked their second consecutive loss to LSU this season.

DJ T.O. used his platform to play the song in tribute to his late father, Flau’Jae Johnson’s father, Jason Johnson, who was murdered in 2003. The choice of music drew criticism from LSU and South Carolina athletic departments, with LSU players referencing their frustration on social media about what they described as disrespectful behavior.

The South Carolina athletic department issued a statement apologizing for the incident, calling it disrespectful to LSU and its fans, and emphasizing that conference rivalries should not be exploited in this manner. The DJ’s actions were seen as targeting individual players rather than enhancing passion among fans.

“We regret that it came to that in our venue after a game that saw both teams capture the level of national attention that women’s basketball has earned,” the athletic department stated, adding an apology to Flau’Jae, her family, and LSU.
