South Carolina Women’s Basketball Advances to National Championship Game

South Carolina blows out Texas, advances to National Championship game against UConn. The Gamecocks are just 40 minutes away from another title.

The season started with neutral court wins over Michigan and NC State, followed by a five-game winning streak against ranked opponents. However, the team faced setbacks, including Ashlyn Watkins’ season-ending ACL tear in January.

Despite this, South Carolina showed strength through dominant stretches, particularly in January, where they played five consecutive games against top-20 opponents. The team’s senior leaders have been instrumental in guiding their young players to success.

The Gamecocks suffered losses to UCLA and UConn, but bounced back to secure another SEC regular season championship. They then blitzed through the SEC Tournament, winning three conference tournament titles.

In the NCAA Tournament, South Carolina had an uneven run, trailing by at least seven points in each of their wins except for a blowout victory over Tennessee Tech. However, they ultimately made it back to the National Championship Game.

The team is now just 40 minutes away from another title and will face UConn on Sunday. The Gamecocks’ seniors are embracing their final ride and role in the program’s future, with many of them looking to leave a lasting legacy.
