South Korea’s impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol has been arrested on charges of insurrection. The arrest came after a 3 December declaration of martial law, which he claimed would restore order in the country. However, his statement was deemed unconstitutional and led to his impeachment proceedings.
In a video message released before his arrest, Yoon stated that the rule of law had “completely collapsed” in South Korea. He made the remarks as security officials escorted him to the headquarters of the anti-corruption agency. The situation highlights the ongoing power struggle between the president and the government amid concerns over democratic governance.
