South Park has launched its 27th season with a scathing episode targeting Donald Trump and Paramount, just one day after signing a $1.5 billion deal with the network. The premiere, “Sermon on the Mount,” satirizes Paramount’s recent dispute over CBS News’ flagship show and features a photo-realistic depiction of Trump in an animated body.
In the episode, Jesus is brought to South Park schools as part of a lawsuit settlement with Paramount, leading to a heated exchange between Trump and the town. Despite threats of a $5 billion lawsuit, the townspeople eventually agree to pay Trump $3.5 million and create “pro-Trump messaging.” The episode includes a deepfake video of Trump, stripped naked, and tackles topics such as wokeness, Canada, and CBS News’ cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show.
The deal with Paramount comes after contentious disputes involving the company, including recent criticism from South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The merger also requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission, controlled by Trump ally Larry Ellison’s son. Critics argue that the deal is a result of media companies seeking to curry favor with the president.
In response to the premiere, the White House lambasted the show as lacking “authentic or original content” and criticizing its attempt to undermine President Trump’s momentum. However, fans have welcomed the episode’s bold satire, with many praising Trey Parker and Matt Stone for their willingness to speak truth to power. As the show continues to push boundaries, one thing is certain: South Park remains a force to be reckoned with in the world of comedy.
