Southwest Airlines Introduces New Fair Bundles with Varying Amenities

Southwest Airlines has revamped its fare bundles, introducing four tiers: Choice Extra, Choice Preferred, Choice, and Basic. The new fares will be available for purchase in the third quarter of this year for flights starting in 2026.

Travelers can expect to find that the bundles mirror those sold on other low-cost airlines like JetBlue. The more expensive fares come with additional amenities included.

Here’s a breakdown of the new fare tiers:

* Choice Extra: This is the most expensive bundle, offering early boarding, two free checked bags, and complimentary access to extra legroom seats at booking. It also includes more add-ons as part of the base fare.
* Choice Plus: This tier offers preferred standard seats at booking, an earlier group in general boarding, and refundability up to 10 minutes before departure.
* Choice: This tier includes general boarding and a standard seat assignment toward the back of the plane at booking. Eligible travelers can receive a flight credit valid for 12 months if they have to cancel their flights.
* Basic: The least expensive ticket bundle, offering a seat assignment given at check-in and the final position in boarding. Travelers on this fare will be eligible for a flight credit valid for six months if their plans change.

Note that travelers on Choice Preferred, Choice, and Basic fares will need to pay for checked bags, internet, and premium drinks onboard.
