Southwest Pilot Arrested for Alleged Intoxication on Chicago-bound Flight

A 52-year-old pilot, David Allsop, working for Southwest Airlines, was arrested at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for allegedly showing up to work intoxicated. The incident occurred while Allsop prepared to captain a flight to Chicago, causing the flight to be delayed by nearly four hours.

Passengers were accommodated on alternative flights during the disruption. When questioned about the situation, Southwest Airlines stated that the employee has been “removed from duty” as the airline investigates the matter. The company emphasized its commitment to safety, prioritizing the safety of employees and customers above all else.

However, authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances leading to Allsop’s arrest or the results of any alcohol testing. Both the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and Southwest Airlines are continuing their investigations into the incident.
