Space Station Crew Wraps Up Week with Research and Maintenance

The Expedition 73 crew concluded their workweek with a half-shift focused on space research and maintenance. The day began with medical scans, including ultrasound readings to monitor for blood clots in microgravity.

NASA Flight Engineer Nichole Ayers operated the Ultrasound 2 device alongside Commander Takuya Onishi from JAXA. They scanned each other’s veins, with doctors on the ground monitoring the results remotely. The crew also performed various maintenance tasks, including airlock checks and equipment inspections.

Jonny Kim searched for a specialized socket in the Quest airlock, while Anne McClain worked inside, setting up hardware for a future spacewalk. Meanwhile, Kirill Peskov attached himself to an acceleration device to calculate mass accurately.

Sergey Ryzhikov organized electronics in the Zarya module, creating more stowage space. Alexey Zubritskiy transferred cargo and copied science data from a protein crystallization investigation. The crew’s activities are documented on social media platforms @space_station, @ISS_Research, ISS Facebook, and ISS Instagram.
