Pentagon Awards $13 Billion to SpaceX, Blue Origin, and ULA for Sensitive Satellite Launches
The US government has awarded a total of $13 billion in launch contracts to SpaceX, United Launch Alliance (ULA), and Blue Origin over several years. This development underscores the growing partnership between Elon Musk’s SpaceX and the Pentagon, as well as its competitive challenge to long-standing incumbent ULA.
ULA, a joint venture between Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp., emerged victorious last week in obtaining certification for its new Vulcan rocket. Meanwhile, Blue Origin finally reached orbit with its New Glenn in January after years of development.
These contracts reflect an industry undergoing rapid transformation, with SpaceX’s advancements and ULA’s newly certified Vulcan rocket marking significant milestones. The award also demonstrates the increasing role of private companies in supporting national security interests.
