SpaceX Boosts Starlink Satellite Launches with Design Upgrade

SpaceX has implemented a design change to its V2 Mini Starlink satellites, allowing the company to launch more satellites per mission. Typically, the company launches 20-23 satellites per flight, but recent missions have seen up to 28 satellites reach orbit.

The upgraded satellites, dubbed “V2 Mini Optimized,” offer improved performance and reduced weight. The new design enables Falcon 9 rockets to carry up to 29 satellites on a single mission, increasing network capacity by six satellites compared to the original V2 Mini design.

This upgrade comes as SpaceX faces growing demand for its Starlink internet service in the US, with certain areas experiencing strained capacity. To address this, the company has introduced a waitlist for new residential sign-ups.

SpaceX is also developing a more powerful V3 Starlink satellite designed to support gigabit internet speeds. However, this technology relies on the company’s ongoing test flights of its Starship vehicle.
