A robotic Dragon freighter will undock from the International Space Station’s Harmony module on December 12 at 11:05 a.m. EST (1605 GMT), if all goes according to plan. The capsule, carrying about 6,000 pounds of food, equipment, and scientific experiments, is flying SpaceX’s 31st contracted ISS resupply mission for NASA.
NASA will stream the departure live, starting at 10:50 a.m. EST (1550 GMT). Space.com will also carry the feed if available. The Dragon capsule is unique in that it can make two-way deliveries, unlike other operational cargo vessels such as Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus spacecraft and Russia’s Progress vehicle.
After undocking, the Dragon capsule will carry thousands of pounds of supplies and scientific experiments to Earth, where they will be transported quickly to NASA’s Space Systems Processing Facility at Kennedy Space Center. The splashdown is expected to occur a day after undocking off the coast of Florida.
