SpaceX Launch Attempt Scrubbed Due to Weather

A launch attempt for SpaceX’s Amazon satellite mission, KF-02, was scrubbed at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida due to weather conditions. The Falcon 9 rocket was set to launch with a batch of 24 Kuiper satellites into low-Earth orbit at 10:17 a.m. local time.

Despite initial forecasts that suggested a 80% chance of favorable weather, cumulus clouds and rain showers across the Space Coast threatened to delay or cancel the launch. The 45th Weather Squadron issued a Phase II lightning warning for Launch Complex 40, with lightning imminent within five miles of the site.

SpaceX officials announced just before liftoff that the mission would be postponed “to perform additional vehicle checkouts.” A new launch window was set for Friday at 9:40 a.m. local time.

The Amazon Kuiper satellite constellation is part of a project to provide broadband internet access to underserved communities worldwide. SpaceX has secured more than 80 launches to deploy its initial satellite constellation, with most missions launching from Cape Canaveral.

The scrubbed launch marks the third attempt this year for SpaceX’s Project Kuiper missions. The company aims to establish a network of low-Earth orbit satellites that will provide high-speed internet access to remote and underserved regions.
