SpaceX successfully launched 30 satellites into orbit on its second mid-inclination rideshare mission, the Bandwagon-2 launch. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 3:34 a.m. local time and carried a diverse range of payloads to low Earth orbit.
The largest satellite on board was a reconnaissance satellite for South Korea’s military, marking the third of its kind launched by SpaceX. Other notable customers include HawkEye 360, which deployed three satellites for radio-frequency intelligence, and Finnish company Iceye, which launched two synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites capable of producing high-resolution radar imagery.
The Bandwagon-2 mission was the second dedicated rideshare mission to mid-inclination orbit, with SpaceX aiming to offer this service as an alternative to sun-synchronous orbits. The company plans to carry out a total of four Bandwagon missions this year and next, catering to customer demand for medium inclination launches.
