SpaceX has launched its 50th rocket of 2025 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, surpassing last year’s record pace by nearly three and a half weeks. The Falcon 9 rocket, designated as Friday-the-13th, carried 23 Starlink broadband satellites into low-Earth orbit at 11:29 a.m. on June 13.
The milestone marks the 21st flight of SpaceX’s reusable first-stage booster, which has significantly reduced launch costs and transformed the industry. The booster successfully landed on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean after stage separation.
However, an attempt to launch Axiom Space’s fourth crew of private astronauts was thwarted due to a liquid oxygen leak on the Russian side of the International Space Station. No new date has been scheduled for the launch.
Meanwhile, SpaceX plans to build new launch pads and landing pads at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station to prepare for launching Starship-Super Heavy rocket systems from Launch Complex 37 in early 2024, pending regulatory approvals.
SpaceX is also targeting a Starlink mission for June 18, with a predicted launch window of 1:38 a.m. to 6:08 a.m. The exact trajectory and sonic booms are yet to be announced.
