SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket into the night sky on Sunday, April 27, with the Starlink 12-23 mission from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40. The launch took place at 10:09 p.m., 49 minutes ahead of schedule.
The booster, seeing its 20th flight, carried 23 Starlink internet satellites into orbit. After a successful launch, the well-flown booster landed on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean about eight minutes later, with no sonic booms reported.
This marks the first of several launches planned for the week, including SpaceX’s Starlink 12-10 mission and Amazon’s Kuiper Atlas 1 mission. The launch window for these missions opens on April 28 and April 29, respectively.
SpaceX rarely moves its launch times forward, but no reason was given for this change. The company will continue to operate with several launches scheduled throughout the week.
