SpaceX Launches Fifth WorldView Legion Satellite into Orbit

SpaceX has successfully deployed the fifth WorldView Legion satellite into a mid-inclination Earth orbit (MEO). The launch, dubbed Maxar 3, occurred on Tuesday evening from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at 6:13 p.m. EST (2313 UTC) using the Falcon 9 rocket.

The Falcon 9 first stage booster 1086 successfully landed at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station just eight minutes after liftoff, marking its fourth flight after previously launching as a side booster on two Starlink missions and earlier as a Falcon 9 booster.

Maxar Intelligence, a division of Maxar Technologies, manufactured the satellites. The WorldView Legion satellites will augment the company’s satellite imagery capability with high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface, boasting 3.6 million sq. km. of collection capacity per day. This increases Maxar’s capacity by 85% over mid-latitudes.

With two satellites already in operation and six others in a Sun-synchronous orbit, the Maxar constellation now has enhanced capabilities for tasking, allowing customers to access high-quality images through its Maxar Geospatial Platform (MGP) Pro subscription or Vivid Advanced Baseman.
