A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched its Starlink 12-4 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 11:47 a.m. EST, deploying 21 internet satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch took place after Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket was scrubbed due to cloud cover.
The fifth orbital rocket launch of the year from Florida’s Space Coast occurred about eight hours later than initially planned. Last year set a record for 93 launches at Cape Canaveral, but significant clouds across Central and North Florida prevented clear visibility during the launch window.
This mission marked the Falcon 9 first-stage booster’s 15th flight, with previous launches including several Starlink missions. The booster landed successfully on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Grativas in the Atlantic Ocean after stage separation.
SpaceX will next launch a Firefly Aerospace Blue Ghost moon lander for NASA atop a Falcon 9 at 1:11 a.m. on Wednesday from the Kennedy Space Center.
