SpaceX successfully launched a classified mission on Monday afternoon from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The NROL-69 mission, conducted by the National Reconnaissance Office, blasted off atop a Falcon 9 rocket. This is the first time the top-secret spacecraft has flown with SpaceX’s B1092 booster, which had previously only been used for the Starlink 12-13 mission last month.
After liftoff at 1:48 p.m. ET, the stage separation process followed, with the booster landing safely on Landing Zone 1. However, the landing was accompanied by a sonic boom that caused disturbances in the surrounding areas. Despite this, the successful launch marks an important milestone for SpaceX’s growing capabilities as a provider of military and classified missions.
