SpaceX Loses Falcon 9 Booster After Successful Starlink Launch

SpaceX launched a batch of 21 Starlink internet satellites from Florida’s Space Coast on Sunday night, marking the company’s fifth and final launch with the B1086 booster. The rocket successfully landed in the Atlantic Ocean, but unfortunately, the booster tipped over shortly after due to an off-nominal fire that damaged one of its landing legs.

The incident occurred despite a successful mission, which included deploying the Starlink 12-20 satellites into low Earth orbit. This latest launch adds to SpaceX’s growing megaconstellation of space-based broadband satellites, designed to provide high-speed internet access across the globe.

SpaceX has now launched over 19 missions dedicated to its Starlink network in 2025, with more than 7,000 operational satellites currently in orbit. The company continues to push the boundaries of reusable rocket technology and expansion of its satellite constellation.
