SpaceX Set for Sunday Night Starlink Launch from Cape Canaveral

SpaceX is aiming for a 9:24 p.m. EST liftoff on Sunday night for its Starlink 12-20 mission, the 20th orbital rocket launch of the year from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

The Falcon 9 rocket will deploy a payload of Starlink internet-beaming satellites into low-Earth orbit in a southeasterly trajectory. The first-stage booster will target landing on a SpaceX drone ship hundreds of miles away in the Atlantic Ocean, avoiding Central Florida sonic booms.

SpaceX has had a busy week, launching an Intuitive Machines’ second lunar lander on Wednesday and another Falcon 9 on a Starlink mission at 10:34 p.m. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The company is showcasing its joint collaboration and rapid launch capability with NASA’s neighboring space center.

The launch will take place after a doubleheader launch on Wednesday, when SpaceX launched two missions in under four hours. Sunday’s nighttime launch is part of the ongoing Starlink internet-beaming satellite program, which aims to provide global internet coverage.
