SpaceX plans to launch two major missions from the Space Coast, marking a return to active rocket launches in the region after several weeks of silence. On Sunday afternoon, a Starlink internet satellite mission is set to take place, with liftoff scheduled between 3:16 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. EDT.
The first-stage booster will land on a drone ship eight-and-a-half minutes after launch in the Atlantic Ocean. This marks a return to routine for SpaceX’s Starlink program, which aims to provide internet access to remote areas around the world.
However, the real excitement is reserved for Monday evening when another mission, dubbed Fram2, is set to take place. This will be the first time humans will have launched from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A since the Artemis I mission in December 2022. The crew of four astronauts, led by investor Chun Wang, will embark on a historic journey over Earth’s polar regions.
The mission, scheduled for no earlier than 9:46 p.m., comes with a three-hour backup launch opportunity. Weather conditions and timing are crucial factors, but SpaceX is targeting the beginning of the launch window. The crew has extensive polar exploration experience, and their mission will make them the first astronauts to orbit over Earth’s polar regions.
The Space Coast is set for an active weekend with these two high-profile launches, bringing much-needed excitement back to the region’s rocket launch scene.
