Spain is hosting a meeting of European and Arab nations to urge Israel to halt its military operations in the Gaza Strip, citing growing global pressure over the humanitarian crisis. The Madrid gathering brings together 20 countries and international organizations, including Germany, Egypt, and Norway.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has worsened due to an extended aid blockade that has exacerbated shortages of food, water, fuel, and medicine. According to the UN, only a small fraction of needed supplies has entered Gaza since Israel relaxed its blockade last week. The group is seeking to stop the war, which they claim no longer has any goal.
“We must consider sanctions,” said Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. He emphasized that recognition of Palestine as an independent state should be pushed through a UN conference on June 17 in New York. Germany also urged an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic solution, labeling Gaza’s humanitarian crisis “unbearable.”
The meeting aims to promote a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with representatives from various international organizations seeking to push for a peaceful resolution. As tensions continue to rise, global pressure on Israel is mounting, with many countries expressing disapproval of its actions in Gaza.
