The mayor of a small Spanish town has admitted that his town cannot afford to sue Meghan Markle over her new logo’s alleged plagiarism. Xisca Mora, the mayor of Porreres, said that while the logo looks nearly identical to his town’s traditional coat of arms, which dates back to 1370, suing Markle for plagiarism is not a viable option due to the complexity and cost of the process.
The logo in question features a single palm tree with two hummingbirds hovering on either side. Both designs share this common element, but the Spanish town’s coat of arms has been an important symbol of its heritage and cultural identity since its inception.
Markle’s team claims that the logo was designed to pay homage to her home in California, where she lives with Prince Harry, and that a global search for registered trademarks was conducted before the logo was finalized. However, the Spanish town’s mayor is unconvinced by this explanation and hopes that Markle will change the logo.
Despite the similarities between the two logos, the Spanish town has not filed a lawsuit against Markle over the alleged plagiarism. Mora stated that the publicity surrounding the issue has brought attention to his town, albeit unwanted, and he simply wants the logo changed to avoid any further controversy.
