Spectrum Outage Caused by Vandalism, Repair Efforts Underway

A “criminal act of vandalism” caused an outage for Spectrum Cable customers across Kansas City on Saturday. The incident resulted in two cuts to the primary network and a backup network used by Spectrum. Services were restored by Sunday morning.

Spectrum’s spokesperson attributed the outage to an increase in precious metal prices, which has affected the telecommunications industry as a whole. The company is working with local law enforcement to investigate and is offering up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest.

This incident marks the second outage in a week in Kansas City, following a separate Google Fiber outage on May 11. Spectrum has set up a tip line (833-404-8477) for customers to report any suspicious activity.
