Spirit Airlines reported a net loss of $10.9 million for the first quarter following its emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to reports. The carrier is expanding its reach by partnering with Taiwan’s China Airlines, marking another international alliance.
Southwest Airlines announced its new partnership with China Airlines on Sunday, with connections available later in 2025 and service kicking off in early 2026 at select West Coast airports. The move brings Southwest closer to its goal of growing its presence overseas.
The carrier has also joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) earlier this year and submitted a U.S. application for expanded international services. CEO Bob Jordan expressed caution about long-haul international routes, saying the carrier will carefully consider its strategy.
