Game developer 1047 Games has announced that it is “unlaunching” its multiplayer first-person shooter Splitgate 2, citing concerns from the community about its launch. Despite the controversy surrounding its launch, including a now-infamous stunt by CEO Ian Proulx at Summer Game Fest, the game will remain online in beta and continue to receive updates.
The studio plans to pause its planned roadmap for an overhaul of the project and instead focus on supporting the game with season 3 updates, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements. However, this means that the majority of the team’s efforts will be dedicated to a relaunch of Splitgate 2 in early 2026.
As part of cost-cutting measures, 1047 Games will cut an unspecified number of staff members and shut down servers for the original Splitgate next month. The studio is also exploring ways to support offline or peer-to-peer matches for the game.
CEO Ian Proulx expressed regret over the game’s launch, citing a lack of community involvement in areas such as Battle Royale mode. He emphasized that 1047 Games will work closer with players moving forward and incorporate their feedback into the relaunch.
The studio has identified several key issues to address, including ranked leaderboards, more mode-specific playlists, and revamped game modes. They also plan to rework monetization, following criticism of expensive cosmetics and a launch bundle priced at $80.
Proulx acknowledged that mistakes have been made during the development process but expressed his commitment to the game’s success. He stated that 1047 Games is determined to retain the trust of its community and has learned from previous setbacks in the series’ history.
The relaunch window for Splitgate 2 is currently set for early 2026, although Proulx noted that an earlier release could be possible if the team was ready.
