A British indie rock band, Sports Team, was robbed at gunpoint while on a U.S. tour in Vallejo, California. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the band stopped for coffee outside a Starbucks. Armed robbers ransacked their tour van, making off with valuable equipment, laptops, passports, and personal items.
In an Instagram post, the band described the scene: “Just been robbed at gunpoint 10 minutes into the US tour.” The thieves were wearing masks, but two members of the group managed to retreat back inside the Starbucks as one of them waved a gun at the band.
The police told the band to submit an online report. Despite the loss of personal gear, including laptops and passports, the band reassured their fans that they would still play tonight in Sacramento. Sports Team has had two top albums in the UK and was nominated for a prestigious Mercury Prize in 2020.
