Sprinkler Punishes Illegally Parked Drivers in Viral TikTok Video

A 58-year-old IT business owner in Rockhampton, Queensland, has created an automatic sprinkler system to deter drivers from parking on his driveway. The system was installed two years ago after multiple customers would park on the driveway, blocking staff access and creating a safety hazard.

The idea came about when a tobacconist moved into the store next door, causing up to 20 people per day to park in the driveway. Kerr solved the issue by installing his unique sprinkler system, which has since gone viral on TikTok, with footage of drivers getting sprayed with water for parking illegally attracting millions of views.

One worker who parked on the driveway was fired after being exposed in a video shared online. The worker had claimed he was working on a mining site but was actually visiting the tobacconist next door. When Kerr’s boss saw the video, he apologized and told him his employee was dishonest and not keeping up with company standards.

Since its installation, only two or three cars have parked in the driveway and gotten blasted with water per day. The system has become a tourist attraction, with locals challenging it on their scooters and tourists taking photos of it as they pass by. Kerr even receives requests for advice on how to install similar systems from businesses across Australia and the US.

Kerr’s approach has been successful in deterring drivers from parking in his driveway, and he jokes that it’s “instant karma” for those who park illegally. The system also addresses other issues, such as people urinating in the driveway’s alcove in broad daylight, which Kerr is working on upgrading to prevent.
