San Antonio won its second straight game in Denver, beating the short-handed Nuggets 113-106 on Wednesday night. Jaylen Pickett recorded his first triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Spurs.
Harrison Barnes scored 20 points to lead six San Antonio players in double figures. Russell Westbrook had a big game but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter after missing a crucial layup attempt that would have tied the game.
The Nuggets struggled with their bench, which outperformed Denver’s starters one night earlier when they lost 140-139 to Minnesota in double-overtime. Coach Michael Malone emphasized the need for his reserves to step up and play like the starters.
Denver fell behind by 20 points in the first half and trailed 66-54 at halftime before taking a lead with Pickett’s drive. The Spurs eventually took control, thanks in part to Chris Paul’s key back-to-back 3-pointers that gave them an early lead.
The loss puts Denver’s record at 47-30, while San Antonio improves to 32-44 on the season.
