Squid Game Creator Explains Brutal Ending, Fans Left Confused

The creator of the popular South Korean thriller Squid Game has shed light on the show’s ending that has left viewers in tears. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the mastermind behind the Netflix hit, explained that the finale’s message is about finding hope and sacrifice for the future generation.

In a recent interview with Tudum, Hwang discussed how the baby, who won the game, represents the future. He stated, “Ultimately, the baby represents the future generation… I believe we also have the responsibility and duty to try everything that we can in our power to leave a better world for the future generation.”

Hwang revealed that Gi-hun’s fate was initially not set to end in death, but he felt a conclusive ending was necessary. He explained, “The message I wanted to communicate was that if we solely pursue our immediate self-interest, and refuse to self-restrain, sacrifice, or bear any costs – and if we don’t put our heads together – we have no future.”

The conclusion of the series has left fans emotional, with many taking to social media to express their responses. Fans are praising the show’s masterful storytelling, while others are struggling to process the finale.

With its return in December, Squid Game quickly became a fan favorite. However, it took three years for the show to make its comeback. The final six episodes were released on June 27, featuring Seong Gi-hun back in the deadly tournament.

The series has audiences “crying” and “screaming,” with some fans expressing confusion about the finale’s outcome. Despite this, Squid Game remains a highly acclaimed and thought-provoking show that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
