Squid Game Season 2: Critics Weigh In on ‘Bigger and Better’ Success

The highly anticipated second season of the South Korean survival/horror series “Squid Game” has finally arrived, and critics are divided but ultimately impressed. With creator Hwang Dong-hyuk back at the helm, the sophomore season promises to deliver even more action-packed episodes with gruesome deaths.

The initial reactions from a select group of critics have been overwhelmingly positive, with many hailing the second season as “brilliant,” “masterstroke,” and “crazier” than the first. Lee Jung-jae’s performance as Seong Gi-hun is particularly praised, with Ashley Hurst noting that his character delivers a “ferocious performance.”

The new season also introduces new characters, including one inspired by Marvel’s Thanos, adding to the show’s already high stakes. The addition of retribution-based gameplay and an increased focus on the mysterious Front Man have critics expecting a thrilling ride.

While some are calling it “bigger and better” than the first season, others acknowledge that the second season faces immense pressure to live up to its predecessor’s success. With seven episodes planned for the new season, fans can expect even more suspenseful plot twists and intense action sequences.

“Squid Game” Season 2 will be released on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
